M+T | Guanella Pass, Colorado Engagement Photography
Lindsey and Cam’s engagement photography session on Guanella Pass near Georgetown, Colorado was stunning to say the least. Guanella Pass was lined with wildflowers, alpine tundra, mountainous views of Mount Bierstadt and Mount Evans, and greenery during this summer engagement session. I actually said out loud “oh my gosh” when I first pulled into the parking lot, because it was so breathtakingly beautiful. Guanella Pass even has little lakes that are an easy walk to access. This would also be such a gorgeous spot for a Colorado elopement, encompassing ALL of Colorado’s natural beauty.
I spent the day strolling Georgetown before their session, which is the most quaint spot to grab lunch. It was raining during the day, but I assured Lindsey and Cam that the rain usually clears up after 10 minutes and gifts us a beautiful sky. We were lucky enough to get a mix of cloud coverage, warm glowing sunset lighting, a rainbow, and even pink skies as the sun fully set. It even started hailing for a moment, but I wasn’t worried because sometimes summer in the mountains is just like that and it cleared within 2 minutes.
Although their engagement session was in mid-August, it was slightly chilly on the mountain top, so I always recommend dressing in layers. L+C were champs though, and I think enjoying some champagne by the lake and moving around a lot helped keep them warm (yet another reason I’m not a fan of stiff motionless poses!) We chatted about their wedding plans at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado in 2023 and Lindsey told me that she wanted to do their engagement session with me first before booking a wedding photographer to make sure they felt comfortable with their photographer. Usually, clients book me for their engagement and wedding photography together, however, I totally understood where Lindsey was coming from with wanting to make sure the vibe of their photographer felt comfortable before committing to a wedding! I was so happy that I was able to make them feel relaxed and give them plenty of prompts to make sure their photos appeared effortless and natural. After their session, they asked me to photograph their wedding which was such an honor and validation that I had accomplished my goal for their session. These two were so sweet and I absolutely cannot wait for their big day next year!
