Maroon Bells, Aspen Colorado Micro Wedding Photography

Are you torn between an elopement and a full sized wedding? You can take inspiration from Jana and Josh’s micro wedding at Maroon Bells in Aspen, Colorado and do an option in between those two! Their wedding included approximately 30 guests at the ceremony and reception. They were able to spend the first part of the day with their parents and wedding party as they got ready at the Limelight Hotel in Snowmass, Colorado. After they were wedding-ready, we headed to the STUNNING Maroon Bells for their first look. This is a location I had always wanted to check out, especially in the fall because of how stunning the mountainous are. Their wedding was October 3, 2023 and although it was a fall wedding, we got a light sprinkling of snow! This didn’t stop everyone from enjoying first look, couple and wedding party portraits with Maroon Bells in the backdrop. The wedding portraits I got of Jana and Josh had me squealing with excitement! We were surrounded by mountains, the lake, and tons of aspen trees in bright yellows. I always assure couples that we will get gorgeous portraits no matter what the weather decides to do and I am a pro at managing photos in any type of climate, even as wind and snow tried to challenge us.

Jana and Josh encountered a slight road block when choosing where to host their wedding reception. Their original venue had closed after they booked it, and with the help of their planner Kaitlin Shea Weddings, they were able to find Snowmass Club who could accommodate them and their guests last minute. Snowmass Club in Snowmass Village includes a golf course with the mountains in the background and it was truly a breath taking spot for their ceremony. The fall colors were still visible from the ceremony site, and they hosted their cocktail hour right next to where they got married. The snow cleared up and everyone enjoyed mingling in the crisp fall air. Their indoor dinner was a beautiful and intimate celebration with their favorite people, and included speeches, lots of laughs, and cheers. We were all able to stay at hotels nearby so the couple got to spend the entire weekend celebrating with their friends and family. One of the reasons I love photographing micro weddings is getting to capture the extra quality time the couple spends with their people. You get much more one on one time and conversations when you are accompanied by only 30 people versus 150+. Micro weddings are the perfect happy medium option when you’re a laid back couple who still wants to celebrate your marriage but without the added challenges of hosting hundreds of people at once. Many couples even opt to have a larger party after their wedding on another date. Splitting up the wedding itself, and the after-party is a perfect way to not overwhelm yourself with too many activities in one day! I am so grateful to have captured this gorgeous Colorado fall wedding and hope this can inspire you to think about how you want your wedding day to look. If you are ready to plan your Colorado micro wedding photography, I’m your person!
