Eloping at Sapphire Point Overlook Lake Dillon, Colorado

Sapphire Point Overlook at the Dillon Reservoir in Dillon, Colorado is one of my all-time favorite spots for an elopement or intimate small wedding. If you are searching for a pro to help you plan your elopement and pick the perfect spot to do it, I’m your person!

Not only is the area surrounding Lake Dillon beautiful in the warmer months, but it is an easily accessible option for the winter as well. Sapphire Point Overlook provides stunning views of Lake Dillon below, as well as mountains in the background. This is the best of both worlds if you are someone seeking a location with water and mountain views! Accessibility is something I prioritize when I recommend locations to my couples, especially in the winter when many areas may be closed or difficult to access due to snow and ice. Luckily Sapphire Point Overlook is a quick and easy 5 minute walk from the parking lot, so it is totally doable in all weather conditions! This makes it easy for you and your guests to take in gorgeous views without a big hike. I have more information on Colorado elopements here. Group Size: You are allowed to have 30 people at the overlook, including vendors. No chairs are allowed but there is plenty of space to stand.

Reservations: Reservations to use the overlook can be made online, and I will help you with this process! This will guarantee your use of the overlook, which will deter curious hikers or other photographers from wandering into your ceremony. This reservation costs $128 so it is an affordable option for most couples.

Privacy: Because this is such a beautiful and easy-to-access location, sometimes hikers are walking by the trail that runs right next to the overlook. Usually, it is emptier on a weekday evening, which is always when I recommend that you do your elopement anyway. Most Colorado trails can become popular, especially on weekends which is why I stay away from weekends in nature. If you are someone who wants complete privacy for your elopement where you won’t risk seeing anyone, I will recommend a different location.

2024 Updates: Sapphire Point has proposed plans to create another overlook, and they are currently not taking reservations online. Because we cannot currently guarantee exclusive use of the overlook, I recommend photographing at other locations around Lake Dillon for your ceremony (there are plenty I can show you within a 5 minute drive!) Then we can swing by the overlook to see if it is available for some final couple photos. I have included one of my other favorite spots in this gallery that is a 3 minute drive from Sapphire Point, if you scroll to the bottom of this gallery! You actually get to be closer to the lake too which is a bonus.
