When Victoria and Jacob decided to get married at Piney River Ranch, they knew they were in for a day filled with breathtaking scenery just exploring with love. As a Colorado wedding photographer, I’m always thrilled to capture couples at such stunning venues, this day was everything one could dream of and more. Piney River Ranch is nestled deep in the heart of the Colorado Rockies near Vail, and this venue offers everything you could dream of for a mountain wedding—vast, panoramic views, crystal-clear waters, canoes, cabins you can stay in, and the kind of peace you only find in the mountains.

For Victoria and Jacob, the day began with getting ready in the little log cabins surrounding the lake. The mountain backdrop felt like something out of a painting, creating the perfect setting for these high school sweethearts to begin the next chapter of their journey together. As a Colorado photographer who often works in the mountains, it’s moments like these when nature and love come together—that make every shot feel magical.

From their first time seeing each that day other during the ceremony to their heartfelt vows, every detail of their wedding day was filled with the joy and warmth that only comes from being surrounded by family and friends. Their connection, built over years of growing and laughing together, was clear to everyone present. And Piney River Ranch, with its stunning views of the Gore Range, offered the perfect canvas for a celebration that felt both personal and grand.

One of the highlights of the day was their lakeside ceremony. With the mountains towering above and the peaceful lake stretching out behind them, it was the perfect spot for these two to pledge their lives to each other. As a wedding photographer, I always look for ways to capture not just the big moments but the little glances and shared smiles that show the depth of a couple's connection. Also, I basically have a sixth sense for happy tears. Couples always share with me how they look forward to seeing those candid moments, and I can assure you that I’ve got those covered, from the hugs to eyeball waterfalls. Victoria and Jacob's day was full of those moments, and I felt honored to be the one documenting them. Their first dance will also hold a special spot in my memory because of the special guest appearance from the resident moose! Their dance was mostly private on the deck, with this majestic creature witnessing it while taking swim in the water.

As the sun began to set, casting a golden glow over the mountains, the celebration continued. Guests gathered in the giant log cabin reception space, sharing stories, speeches, and dancing as the sky turned shades of pink and orange. I was able to pull V+J aside for their sunset couple photos while catching the last of the alpenglow. They took a quick spin in the canoe which made for truly unique wedding photos and allowed space to just enjoy each other’s company without anyone else around (except me and my second shooter capturing these special moments on a long lens on the dock.)
